Lady LG 4 159 Опубликовано 18 мая, 2011 (изменено) Serdar: Thank you for taking part in our conversation. This is simple arithmetic It goes without saying the task was elementary from the point of view of Arithmetic or rather Algebra. Any 10 year-old child could do it. But my aim was different. I wanted everyone (especially beginners) to practise reading and understanding English. It might awaken their interest to it. At the same time, such a phrase as "... half as many as..." could be useful for more experienced learners. I know that few people can say: "...twice as expensive as..." - в 2 раза дороже or "... half as many as..." - в 2 раза меньше, etc. Here's one more puzzle. The answer is easy but please, try to prove it IN ENGLISH. "A big German and a little German were walking along the road. The little German was the big German's son, but the big German wasn't his father. How can it be?" САМИРА. VICTORIAN, MOLLY and all the others! Why am I writing alone? I'd like to hear something interesting from you! See you later! Изменено 18 мая, 2011 пользователем Lady LG Поделиться сообщением Ссылка на сообщение

Lady LG 4 159 Опубликовано 19 мая, 2011 (изменено) Serdar: I had to answer more indetail, didn't i? I think you meant "in detail", didn't you? Yes, you had better. Can you help gimini explain her answer about a big German? gimini Дата 18.05.2011 - 18:08 If a person is not the father, but has a son, she - a mother. biggrin.gif But why "German"? Not "Englishman" or "Frenchman"? Try to replace "German" with one of these words and you'll see that in this case the riddle makes no sense and has no answer. Good luck! Eliza, Elizabeth, Betsy and Bess I know the answer but I won't tell it. Let the others guess. So long, see you again.
