Some information for newcomers:

     Dear friends!

We are all glad to see you in our club. Please try to be active and practise your English as much as possible. Here you can write about everything. You can share your thoughts, dreams and impressions - anything you find interesting for us. You can also send jokes, riddles, songs, short funny stories; you can think of a film, book, song and we'll try to guess it. But remember: films, books or songs should be popular and well-known. Invent your own tasks.

Our boss is victorian. Be respectful to him! (I'm kidding: he is cool and friendly)

     Good luck!

Hi, Dinka! Thank you for the warming welcome.

DanilaMe

There's a rule in our club: the winner gets a virtual prize. For example, a chocolate for a lady and a bottle of beer for a gentleman.

Anything you like!

LadyLG

That's a great rule. Im that case you are awarded with tons of cupcakes. If anything goes awry, please let me know.

It would be nice if you share them with Victorian.

Meanwhile I'd like to tell you about the slang word "kapeesh". I learned it last week when my landlord Paul invited his American Italian friend Angelo. Paul was kind of making fun of Angelo's origins by saying the "Kapeesh?!" word because it turned out to be mobster slang from the Godfather and anglicization of Italian word  capisci. It means "Do you understand?!"

Here are some examples:

Kick the ball into the net, not over the net! Kapeesh?!

Listen, we both know, I ordered a Pepsi cola, so instead you insult me... with whatever this stuff! Change it to a Pepsi, Kapeesh?

Ladies and gentlemen! For today we have the following tasks:

1. Dinka's riddle:

There is a word in the English language in which the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four signify a great man, and the whole word, a great woman. What is the word?

2. Guess the film (and the book)

     - You are not Dostoevsky!

     - Who knows, who knows...

     - Dostoevsky died!

     - I protest! Dostoevsky is immortal!

3. Guess the song:

"A black-eyed girl shoed my horse and asked for some silver coins which wasn't expensive."

What is the name of the girl?

     What nationality is she?

By the way, I hate this song...

So.... Let me make a wild guess ))

1. The answer to the riddle is HEROINE

I assume it's really a tough one....

2. The movie and the book are called "The Master and Margarita"

3. I'm still working on the third one )

Do I get a bottle of wine for the first two answers?

Yes, I do, but unfortunately some of them are written in bad English with lots of mistakes. I have a collection of cards and pictures in my computer. I like this one:

To Victorian

Thank you for clarification.

To LadyLG

Thank you for delicious wine. It made me feel thick this morning though. Looks like I shouldn't have drunk all by myself... )) I think I'll pass on the second one from Dinka.

To Englishaddict

These ecards are hilarious! And we could post only those in proper English. Though not 100% Queen's English, because nobody speeks Queens English anyway =)))  I believe you might have enough expertise too access them.

Here are some good ones I found earlier this morning:

This is becoming quite rare these days. I mean not being welcomed by tweets and status updates.

What a strong declaration of love!
