  1. Nice job, AnutaM. Here are new jewels for my own word collection. 1. Reiterate - to do something again. I am going to reiterate this lecture next summer. 2. Heresy Some deeds could be easily qualified as heresy under certain circumstances. 3. Inchoate - rudimentary or undeveloped Russian tourism sector seems to be pretty inchoate thus creating many opportunities to entrepreneurs.
  2. My words for this fabulous Tuesday: 1. Wanton - cruel action that was done deliberately and unprovoked. The police actions on that day were considered to be be wanton. 2. Idiosyncrasy Sometimes businesses suffer from local idiosyncrasies. 3. Artifice - clever or cunning devices or expedients, esp. as used to trick or deceive others: "artifice and outright fakery" James Bond used a lot of artifice during his secret service career.
  3. My words for this Monday are going to be the following: 1. Parity - equality. Independent countries try to keep parity in their relationship. This parity is applied to economic preferences as well as to the number of diplomats officially serving in the foreign country. 2. Reverent - feeling or showing deep respect. Every martial art I know values reverent relationship between master and student. 3. Indelible - making marks that can't be removed. The past events made indelible scars on his delicate soul.
  4. Last weekend I had a very appropriate situation to use the word "pang": when I was lifting my baby boy I felt a strong pang in my back. Luckily it didn't last very long.
  5. Sounds like you had a great time there too. This museum sound like a lot of fun for children, we might visit it next time we'll be in Prague.
  6. Yes indeed in was very exciting! The trip was about 8000 km in total, and we usually moved with the pace of approximately 800 km per day. Most of all we liked our snowboarding in Tignes - any ski or snowboard lover should check it up. The second mosy lovely stop was in Prague. I was in love with this city at first sight, and I would like to continue this relationship )).
  7. Отдыхаю вместе с семьей )

  8. Cool! This one is new for me. I will try to remember that pang is a good word for sudden pain or emotional distress.
  9. We went on a beautiful road trip to French Alps with the following stops: Ukraine (Kiev) - Hungary (Budapest) - Slovakia (no stops) - Italy (Turin) - Tignes (France) and back through Switzerland (Bern) - Czech Republic (Prague) - Poland (Warsaw) - Estonia - Latvia - Russia. I shared this trip with several people and it made it really cost effective and fun! It is easy nowadays to organize all your itineraries yourself just using Internet. I find it absolutely awesome.
  10. That is an integrated writing task from TOEFL test preparation. The number of words should not exceed 150-225 words. This short story is about sorrowful fate of Pluto that used to be the solar system planet once. According to the voting that was organized by international Astronomical Union Conference on the 24th of August 2006 Pluto was excluded from our solar system planet list. This decision was based on the following arguments: Pluto is very small comparing to other planets, Pluto does not clear the neighborhood around it's orbit. Though it was claimed by some astronomers that "science was self-correcting" making such a decision others argue that there is no scientifically justified definition of a planet to make IAUC decision acceptable. Besides the voting represented merely 5 percent of IUAC members and it was poorly organized. Hence the decision in question lead to organized opposition against IUAC bringing Pluto lovers together. They try to defend Pluto's status using different instruments: from bringing to the table grey childhood of those who have only 8 planets in solar system to proclaiming March 13th as Planet Pluto Day in New Mexico. That is why It is still unknown who will be besieged in this so called "Great Pluto War".

  12. Hi! What's going on? You wrote a great story considering this is your first experience! Keep that pace and you will be rewarded pretty soon, probably, during your next trip to Europe. By the way, this kind of travelling is my favorite hobby as well. It lets you feel your freedom. =) You can drive wherever you want, in any direction and find many interesting people and places on your way. And I agree with the valuable comment from Lady LG. Try to use past simple tense when you write stories about the past.
  13. I just wanted to make sure that I am not really extending the book itself.
  14. Today is Friday and the relaxing weekend is just behind the corner. But I have one more set of words to share during this week: 1. Rectify - to correct or amend something, to purify or refine. You are not allowed to rectify the mistakes made in the first part of the test. 2. Placate - to make someone less angry or hostile. My mother tried to placate these two fighting kids but all was in vain. 3. Nebulous - unclear, indistinct, hazy, cloudy. The society was given a very nebulous explanation in regard to recently introduces laws.
  15. I double checked the expression to "extend dictionary" after your comment. It seems fine to me because dictionary is defined as vocabulary list or word list or collection of word meanings and is in that sense it is a legit synonym to replace the word "vocabulary". Throughout this topic I used the word vocabulary several times and wanted to replace it with something else. That's why I came up with this combination. However your examples look better and they are more universal. Especiallly I like the expression "enrich your vocabulary".
  16. I quoted your sentence by mistake. I only wanted to comment the "laziness". Your sentence sounds absolutely perfect and grammatically correct. Also, tt is very practical to keep in mind that you should not worry too much about grammar mistakes. Worry more about understanding and being understood. Sounds pretty obvious but people tend to forget that all the time and concentrate too much on grammar.
  17. Here it comes: 1. Furtive - secret. This group of spies managed to keep low profiles for years, and their presence in the country in question is still kept furtive. 2. Jaded - tired of overwork, worn-out, fatigued. I know this word well from this famous song of Aerosmith, but I NEVER used it actively. I was pretty jaded from my office work, and I had to change it for something else. 3. Pedestrian - commonplace, dull (wow - never new that meaning!) She worked all day in an office block, living pretty much pedestrian life.
  18. Hi Genevio! You are more then welcome to join this topic and extend your dictionary.
  19. I am lazy as well. So it seems that lazy people stick together in this topic. It is always difficult to write for me, but I try to overcome my mental resistance. Try to start with really easy stories and make them more complex step by step. For example, you could describe your day in several short sentences or you could write about your hobby or home town. But do not forget to include new words.

Good evening to everybody, In my previous message we mentioned my son Max. I would like to share some observations on teaching toddlers. Today Max turned two years and a half, and we are trying to practice English from a very young age. We do that in the form of reading interesting books in English, I also talk to Max in English from time to time when we both are in the right mood. I have to admit that this approach works perfectly at least for some children. I had my own similar experience when my dad, who is the German language specialist, was reading German stories to me and talked to me in German when I was growing up. When I grew older I travelled to Germany with him several times at the age of 8 and 11. Since then I had a very limited practice however when I was tested at Goethe Institute I had solid intermediate level without actually investing any time in my studies. As a result of this language practice at a very early age I find it rather easy to comprehend German. The same thing seems to happen to Max. He knows many English words and pronounces them sometimes even better then Russian. His English vocabulary is not as big as Russian, but it is growing fast. He knows his body parts in English, like e.g. belly button, lots of animals names, yes and no stuff, important "timeout" term, and he understands a lot. I believe that if we keep going with him in that direction he will be quite at ease with the language when he becomes a teenager. So my piece of advice is: don't hesitate to start learning English with your munchkins. These investments will not be wasted, and you are guaranteed to have many happy hours with your kids. This should be true for sport practice as well, but we haven't tried it out yet. Please, share success stories of your children for our mutual benefit.

Lovely quote, thank you! I would like to comment that I never made a big deal of the discussed issue. I just had a tiny concern about it, and I wanted to find out your point of view as well as the positions of the other honored English Club members. Well, I use it all the time on many social media resources. However it doesn't work correctly on pudhkino.org, and I can't figure out why. Maybe that's my browsers fault.... Agreed! Yes, that's my little son Max. He is two and a half years old and he is already English language fan since his English vocabulary is almost as big as Russian. Max says hi to every follower of this topic.
  22. Time for rock-n-roll! Let's go! 1. Abrogate - to annul by an authoritative act; to abolish by the authority of the maker or her or his successor. There are rumors that the government plans to abrogate privatization next year. 2. Pejorative - derogatory, expressing contempt or distaste I never thought that the word dude was once considered to be pejorative. 3. Gaffe - a foolish and embarrassing error, especially one made in public. Some people tend to make lots of gaffes in public without realizing it.
  23. И я тоже учился в пушкиноско ДМШ №1. Основным преподавателям по специалности был Евгений Сотников.
